NORSE HAMMER RITE

Part One

1. Stand straight and raise your right (or left) hand in front of you and just a little higher than your head.

2. Bring the hand down straight, and down to near the level of your belly-button.

3. Take the hand to the left of, and slightly away, from your body and cut it across horizontally in front of your body and towards the right of, and slightly away from your body at the other side. You've just done a hammer sign.

Part Two

1. Face north, perform the hammer sign as described above, and say, 'Hammer of the North, hallow and hold this holy stead'.

2. Face east, perform the hammer sign as described above, and say, 'Hammer of the East, hallow and hold this holy stead'.

3. Repeat the hammer sign and said ritual words for the south, and then the west.

4. Trace the hammer sign above you in a way that would make it parallel to the ground (It is still the same hammer sign) and say, 'Hammer above, hallow and hold this holy stead'.

5. Trace the hammer sign below you in a way that would make it parallel to the ground (Same hammer sign) and say, 'Hammer below, hallow and hold this holy stead.' You've just consecrated a circle in honour of All-Father Thor.

For the above rite, you may choose words more favourable to you if you wish, so long as it comes from the heart. To hallow means to bless and make  sacred. TO HOLD THIS HOLY STEAD means, to hold the sacredness/holiness within the circle, blessing all within.  Once the hammer rite had been done, invoke your favourite god/goddess/holy spirit of whatsoever sort, and you may then perform your devotions/prayers, divination, healing magic, etc. Please don't invoke demons, devils, vampires, goblins and the like, for the following reasons:-

1. Thor hammers these creatures to oblivion just as he does everyday with evil jotuns (giants and ogres) and trolls at Jotunheim (Giants' Home). He regards these creatures basically on the same level, THE HAMMERING LEVEL!

2. Thor is an absolute god of common sense (which is why he's very popular with farmers, fishermen, busy housewives, young children, responsible men, etc.) and invoking ugly and/or mean creatures who may do you harm if you're unlucky enough, in his holy circle, has nothing to do with common sense. The brave bodyguard of Asgard will either just laugh at your suffering, or ignore you and walk away in disgust. OUCH!

3. Thor will not respect you more because you happen to be a Fellow (university title of sorts) of Harvard or Sorbonne Universities and are so intelligent and educated, if you have no common sense. That's right, men! Go straight home to your wives and children instead of the daily and almost religious detour to your favourite public bar/hotel after work. As for the women, hang around with bad dudes (Yes, I've been told they are not boring, and can be exciting! Ummm,....,no thanks.....) and expect them to totally change to your expectations eventually and we can all, already smell trouble even before the bit, I DO.
